FROM THE PRINCIPAL'S DESK

Dear PJP Family and Friends,

Welcome to the 2011-2012 school year!  I am looking forward to a year full of possibilities.

A special welcome to all of our new students and their families.  I would also like to welcome those new to our PJP faculty and staff family:  Coach Franklin Thomas will be serving as an assistant football coach.  Coach Krisner Green will be teaching in our Math department and coaching in our athletic department as well.  Coach Danny Clavier will be the head coach for boys’ soccer.  Also, not a new face, but a change in roles for J.B. Mahoney, who is moving from assistant coach to head coach of girls’ soccer this year.  Congratulations!

As we move into the new year, a restructuring of the administration has taken place.  Mr. Berkowitz, who was formerly the principal, will now serve as the president of our school.  I will be assuming the role of principal.  Lise Bremond is now the assistant principal for academics and Brad Humphreys is the assistant principal for student affairs.  Although some of us are serving in a new capacity, we are all still here to serve you.

Following God’s call, my family and I moved to Slidell at the end of June from Mobile, Alabama, where I was an administrator with the Archdiocese of Mobile for fourteen years.  I am so grateful to the members of our community who have made us feel so welcome.  Moving to a new place is difficult, but your hospitality has truly helped to put us at ease.  We are all very excited about our new lives here.

Although I am qualified to administer at this level, it is the first time in my professional career that I have been part of a high school environment.  I view this opportunity as a gift that I have been given to share my skills with another level of students, as well as to learn from a more varied group of people.  I am honored that God has given me the responsibility of helping to shape future generations.  I look forward to seeing the fruits of my labor in years to come when the alumni of PJP that I have worked with is making a significant positive impact on our world.

As principal, I do want people to feel that I am available to them.  Please feel welcome to contact me through e-mail or phone anytime.  I believe in open communication. It is only when the school and home work together as a team do our students benefit most.

Throughout the upcoming year, I hope to get to know all of the members of the Pope John Paul II community. This includes students, faculty and staff, parents, alumni, and friends.  The more people I can get to know, the better I can work with you to accomplish goals we set forth for PJP.

A major goal that we have this year is getting the word out to the Slidell community about all of the fantastic things going on here.  We must work to build each other up so that we can build up the school.  Please spread ‘the good news’ about Pope John Paul II High School!

May God bless everyone as we begin a promising new year!

Sincerely,

Martha M. Mundine

Principal
