PJP Transitions From Lenovo to iPad 2
All of the archdiocesan high schools have chosen the iPad 2 to update their technology next school year. After much study and many meetings, this device was chosen on the bases of its educational capabilities and relatively low cost. There are numerous educational applications (Apps) that will allow us to continue to use 21st century state-of-the-art technology in our classrooms as we continue in our mission of academic excellence. We were very fortunate, after Hurricane Katrina, to be able to purchase our original computers and supporting infrastructure with Federal government sponsored Restart funds. Almost one million dollars was spent on our school. Unfortunately, now that it is time to replace the computers and update and maintain the infrastructure, the cost falls on our school and ultimately our parents. This will be about $ 120,000 next school year. In order to pay for the iPads, the archdiocesan high schools have worked out a three year lease agreement with Apple Computer. The schools will lease the iPads from Apple Computer. Parents will be asked to pay a yearly fee of $ 295 for their student to use an iPad 2. This fee will cover one-third the cost of the iPad and its cover, insurance, repairs (Apple Care) and the teacher-selected educational Apps. For those of you financing your tuition and fees, you may request that the iPad 2 fee be added to your loan. If you pay the iPad 2 fee for three years (freshmen and sophomores), at the end of that time, you may purchase the device for one dollar.
