Academic Internships

Our Lady of the Lake Surgical Hospital has partnered with Pope John Paul II Catholic High School to establish an engaging healthcare internship program. This comprehensive initiative includes both classroom lectures and shadowing experiences. Students delve into a range of topics, such as healthcare career opportunities, pathways, empathy and sensitivity training, head-to-toe assessments, medical terminology, and infection control, among others. Participants also take part in simulated activities like conducting assessments, measuring vital signs, and starting IVs.

This internship allows students to interact with various healthcare professionals, including administrators, nurses, surgeons, respiratory therapists, and dietitians. Ultimately, it equips students with valuable insights into their preferred fields before making decisions about their college paths. 

All seniors are eligible for this program along with our Juniors who are active in HOSA.
