This course is designed for students who have scored below a 22 on the ACT or PLAN and would like to improve their ACT scores. The class provides students with the opportunity to learn the strategies they need to achieve their best ACT score. Emphasis will be placed on both critical reading skills and writing skills including grammar, editing and thesis development needed for the exam. The students take several practice tests that are scored with a plan developed for improvement. Although we do not guarantee results, typically, the student will raise his or her composite scores between 2 - 4 points.
This course of study is designed especially for entering eighth graders and includes learning styles, reading, listening, studying, test-taking strategies, organization, goal setting, research techniques, the learning process, the writing process, and training in using the iPad and website. The students will demonstrate an understanding of the relationship between coursework, school activities, community activities, and career clusters. The students will learn time management skills and study techniques, using an agenda to organize their student life. This course will include a study of the mission of PJP and how it will affect their learning, including the 3 pillars of the mission statement: Academic Excellence, Faith Development, and Leadership. Finally, students will learn about our namesake and patron, Saint John Paul II.
The purpose of this course is to provide the student with the basic concepts of the various disciplines that make up Sports Management. Areas of Sports Management that will be covered are: social issues in sports, sports law, organizational skills, finances and economics of sports, facility management, ethics of sports, and various other topics that are involved in Sports Management careers.
