PJP’s Art Club members utilize their impressive artistic talents by creating individual artworks along with other breathtaking pieces of art throughout the school and in the community. All PJP students are able to join this club, even if they feel that they are not especially artistic. The Art Club gives students the opportunity to have fun, express themselves, and grow in their artistic abilities. Art teacher and Moderator Ms. De Noux, Vice President Kate Prude, and member Avery Dunbar recently participated in an interview to reveal why they love the Art Club and how the club intends to progress in the future.
Kate, a 5-year member of Art Club, guarantees that students can “expect to get paint on your hands”, while Avery, a first-year member of Art Club, notes that their projects normally take a few weeks to complete. Avery finds art to be a “good stress relief”, “very therapeutic”, and a great way “to get creative throughout the day without having to worry about it being graded”. Kate enjoys learning from Ms. De Noux and getting to tap into her own creativity and inventiveness. She hopes to start a new mural project on the soccer shed that will enhance and beautify the space. Ms. De Noux, continuing her fifth year as Art Club Moderator, hopes that the Art Club gives students “the opportunity to do fun, crafty things”, especially for younger students who are unable to take Art class until their sophomore year. Ms. De Noux, Kate, and Avery all believe that their runner-up pumpkins from the Painted Pumpkin Patch Decorating Contest are their biggest accomplishment so far, but “ultimately, I [Ms. De Noux] want to do more community things like murals.” The Art Club recently completed creating numerous ornaments for the Parade of Trees in Griffith Park in Olde Town Slidell. Their ornaments should be hung soon, but until then, the Art Club will continue to bless PJP’s campus and the city of Slidell with their artistic talent!
